Personal, Commercial, & Life Insurance Advisor 


Position Summary

 

The primary responsibility for this position is to write new profitable personal, commercial, and life insurance accounts by networking, prospecting, developing leads, evaluating insurance needs, creating an insurance proposal & program, and selling and retaining new clients.  The primary target markets will be preferred Home, Auto, Umbrella personal lines accounts, and small to mid-size commercial lines accounts. including but not limited to, contractors, auto services, retail stores, restaurants, manufactures, professional offices, and wholesalers/distributors, breweries/wineries/distillers.  We are looking for an Insurance Advisor that sells on the full spectrum of insurance solutions including proper coverage, great service, risk management and safety programs, compliance, and policy value.    

 

Qualifications:


  • High School diploma; undergraduate degree preferred
  • Must have or be willing to obtain a valid Pennsylvania Property and Casualty Insurance License.
  • Professional designation (CPCU/CIC/ACSR/CRIS) preferred.
  • 3 years of recent Personal, Commercial, and Life Lines account management or sales experience.
  • Applicant must have a record of high integrity, professionalism, networking ability, teamwork, overcoming objections, positive energy, learning complex procedures, and accountability.
  • Demonstrated success in hitting P&C and Life sales objectives, and track record of cultivating new business, referral sources, and writing profitable business.       
  • Small to medium size accounts experience preferred (contractors, auto services, retail stores, restaurants, manufactures, professional offices, and wholesalers/distributors, breweries/wineries/distillers). 
  • Experience with an Agency Management System preferred.
  • Experience with Erie Insurance underwriting guidelines and quoting systems a plus.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities


  • The Insurance Advisor is responsible for prospecting, soliciting, quoting, and selling new and renewal accounts. Service and sales standards must be met, and specific sales goals and service responsibilities are determined and reevaluated during the yearly planning process.    
  • Maintain a consistent schedule for cold-calling, prospecting, networking, and marketing to ensure consistent lead generation and prospect appointments.    
  • Pre-qualify insurance prospects for insurability and quality of risk, identifies the client’s insurance needs, gaps in coverage, and loss exposures (insurable and uninsurable), and obtains accurate information from the prospects.  This includes completing applications, supplemental questionnaires, risk surveys, and other related documentation in order to provide complete, comprehensive submissions.
  • Orders and issues binders, certificates, policies, endorsements, and other related items while verifying their accuracy.
  • Maintain a concern for timeliness and completeness when interacting with clients, agency, and company personnel to minimize potential for error or omission claims, and accurately documents client files and electronic files as to coverage discussions, quotes, declination, and coverage change or declines. 
  • Assist clients in making appropriate coverage changes, and inform and educate clients about coverages, exclusions, exposures, and audits and document electronic file accordingly.
  • Follow the Agency standards and best practices procedures for processing and preparation of customer correspondence, certificates of insurance, binders, cancellation requests, insurance I.D. cards, and internal correspondence as requested ensuring that activities and follow-ups are set and the client file in the agency management systems is updated and accurate.
  • Build and maintain relationships with multiple insurance companies and brokers to negotiate and obtain quotes, binders, and endorsements.
  • Makes decisions regarding the resolution of customer service problems by researching and verifying solutions to coverage, audit, claim, and billing issues in a timely manner.
  • Anticipate, meet and/or exceed customer needs, wants and expectations while effectively communicating, building rapport and relating well to clients, carrier personnel, and co-workers.
  • Researches and maintains industry knowledge of developing trends regarding carrier underwriting, appetite and pricing changes and work closely with Agency Management and Underwriting on preparing for change.

  • Demonstrates considerable diplomacy, discretion and judgment with ability to build and maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
  • Proven track record of good attendance, punctuality, and reliability.
