Job Summary:   The Electrical Engineer is responsible for the safe, on time and on budget completion of assigned projects in aluminum extrusion, fabrication, and billet casting facilities.  Capital projects are typically $1M - $40M and could consist of refurbishments of existing equipment and/or new equipment installations. Involves the upgrade and design of equipment, specification of materials and services, supervision of installation, start-up, and troubleshooting of new and existing equipment. Must be able to lead projects from the definition of project scope through final execution while working with diverse plant project teams.  Must be able to lead contractors and support the plant maintenance team to ensure equipment functionality and reliability. Provides recommendations to increase equipment efficiency and overall production system efficiency and reliability. 

 

Required Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, and or equivalent work experience is preferred.
  • Proven success in plant electrical engineering projects, especially equipment specification, installation, and hand-off to operation teams.
  • Evidence of successful collaboration and motivation in cross functional teams.
  • 5 + years of experience in a manufacturing environment and with capital project life cycle.  

 

Preferred Skills/Qualifications

  • Electrical Engineering and/or manufacturing engineering background
  • Combustion, hydraulic and pneumatic experience is preferred
  • Experience in extrusion, casting and fabrication operations is preferred
  • Experience installing mill grade equipment
  • Design, or supervisory design experience in electrical systems, mostly 480VAC
  • PLC/HMI/SCADA systems design experience (Rockwell)
  • Experience interfacing shopfloor level machinery with enterprise level control systems & ERP's
  • Microsoft Project
  • Strong communication and technical writing skills
  • Ability to manage electrical drawing packages and submissions
  • Lean Manufacturing principles including waste reduction experience.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Safe, on time and on budget development and execution of capital projects.
  • Electrical engineering / design responsibilities from concept development through hand-off to plant through established PESHA process.  Management of contractors in a safe and productive way.
  • Work with internal and external engineering resources, equipment suppliers and construction contractors to achieve project goals.
  • Perform engineering tasks such as analytical problem solving, design calculations, review of proposal from equipment suppliers /contractors, selection of equipment / contractors and drawing management
  • Participate cross functional teams towards common project goals.
  • Ensure safe and proper operation of equipment & processes.
  • Recommend and prepare changes, additions, and modifications that will facilitate value created in the manufacturing process.
  • Ensure processes are capable, have sufficient controls, can meet delivery requirements and cost targets.
  • Ability to be on the shop floor when required, access equipment via ladders, high reaches and other means to effectively evaluate progress, issues and solutions.
